South Texas Seminars
Mission Statement
South Texas Seminars is the educational arm of the South Texas Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in Houston, Texas, but functions as a separate entity from the Section.
South Texas Seminars originated in 1979 in response to a need for educational enrichment for Houston area engineers in fields of specializations specific to the industries in the Houston and South Texas areas, using experienced experts in the various disciplines as instructors and mentors.
Presentations and Instructors
All seminars presentations are based on theoretical knowledge of the ASME Codes, with emphasis on the practical applications of the Codes, as used in specific problem solving. Courses are tailored to the specific aspects of the knowledge required for use in the immediate productive results in the workplace. Students at any level of experience and mastery of the discipline can readily apply instructions from the seminars, adding value to their professional portfolios and value to the quality of the level of expertise offered by their companies.
Scholarships
Proceeds from South Texas Seminars are used to fund South Texas Scholarships and stipends presented annually in April to outstanding mechanical engineering students in the ASME Student Sections of Houston area colleges. Award recipients, majoring in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Technology, are from colleges: University of Houston, Rice University, Prairie View A&M University, Texas A&M University at College Station, and Texas A&M University at Galveston. In 2007, $19,200.00 was awarded to outstanding undergraduates and graduates that are continuing to graduate schools in engineering.
