South Texas Seminars is the educational arm of the South Texas Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in Houston, Texas, but functions as a separate entity from the Section.
South Texas Seminars originated in 1979 in response to a need for educational enrichment for Houston area engineers in fields of specializations specific to the industries in the Houston and South Texas areas, using experienced experts in the various disciplines as instructors and mentors.
As Chairman of the South Texas Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), I am writing to solicit your help with our upcoming 6th Annual ASME Night at the Astros that will take place Friday, May 4, 2012, during the Astros game at Minute Maid Park.
Every year, ASME South Texas awards over $18,000 in scholarships to local universities, and provides $1,500 to support the Houston Area High School Science Fair. The Astros event has been a huge success for the South Texas Section, averaging over 400 tickets sold annually and raising over $13,000 in raffle prizes and silent auction items.
"Your generous donation is key to our fundraising efforts and will be publicly acknowledged through promotional announcements, raffle and silent auction donation displays, and in our event program. Additionally, we will recognize all sponsor representatives at the event, and all sponsors through our website and electronic newsletter that reaches more than 5,000 local engineers.

Nathan Kim began his career as a Machinery Engineer at KBR in 2007 and is currently working as the senior sales coordinator for Oil & Gas projects in the Hydrocarbons Business Group. In his current role, he identifies commercial, operations, and legal risks, their impact, and steps for mitigation associated with all prospects in the Americas and Africa for review by executives. He also has managed internal operations, sales, and legal departments to develop winning strategies for proposals.
Nathan received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006 and holds an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification from the State of Texas. While at UT, he became an active member of the ASME student chapter and took on leadership roles in his church’s campus ministry.

Steve Schultheis, was presented his Fellow Status Award, at the Shell 2011 Rotating Equipment Engineers Meeting (REEM 2011) in Bangalore, India in late November, Steve, with Shell as Rotating Machinery Team Lead - Asia, is assigned to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Steve is a recognized expert in Rotating Equipment Engineering with extensive experience in the oil and gas industry. He leads and has led engineering teams supporting dozens of large refining and chemical plants throughout the world, solving complex industry problems.
He has contributed to the engineering profession through his involvement with local professional organizations, leadership in industry conferences, leadership in industry task forces developing industry standards, and numerous peer-reviewed technical papers.

An energetic and innovative leader, Clint is a constant advocate for quality educational opportunities for ASME members and student members. Clint rejuvenated the Plant Engineering and Maintenance Technical Chapter in 1995, which has become one of STS’s most successful Groups, on which he currently serves as Treasurer.
In 2001, he co-founded the Plant Engineering Trade Show which is the largest source of funds for the South Texas Scholarship Endowment Fund, which issues scholarships annually to five area colleges.

Bernie has demonstrated engineering leadership qualities from the very beginning in his professional career while working at NL MWD where he was among the first of field engineers who were responsible for the original deployment and testing of early MWD (Measurement While Drilling) technologies in petroleum well drilling operations.

James R. Hutton’s career as a sales engineer with Dresser Clark covered nearly four decades, starting as an application engineer and working in various sales and management levels before retiring as president of Dresser Machinery International Division in 1986.
He currently is vice president of Compressor Engineering Corporation which builds custom made automation equipment and spare parts for gas compressors.
Hutton graduated from Columbia University Engineering Midshipman’s School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as chief Engineer on two Navy ships. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, as well as a bachelor of business administration from the University of Texas in Austin.
